Well, Pin a (Desirae) Rose On Your Nose.

Born and raised in Boston, in the projects. Yes I got into fights. Yes I have a Boston accent. No I don’t know Ben Affleck, Yes I hate the green line, especially from April to October. Yes I complain about the snow every year. No, I actually don’t mind tourists. If you ask me to say ‘park anything in any yard’ you are automatically on my “Crap List”.

I went to UMASS Amherst to pursue a degree in Journalism, wrote a few articles for the Collegiate and I loved it. Realized 10,000 other people in my school were also pursuing a dream in Journalism, and since the jobs were sparse, fear set in: I may end up living off of Easy Mac and Ramen. I decided to change schools and majors. UMASS Boston, Business & Marketing Science. Turns out, I’m pretty good at math and it is currently how I pay the bills. Writing is still a passion, which I try to indulge in as often as possible. I have learned to tone down my accent, which only slips out when I get super pissed or when I’ve had too many cocktails.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been as busy as humanly possible. In high school, my daily planner was doodled in sparkly gel pen and every nanosecond of my life was filled. College was worse, as is my current daily planner. I don’t want a Blackberry to organize my life. If it crashes, my life might as well be over. Why do I stay so busy? Because I CAN that’s why! Life is too short, and I want to be able to lie on my death bed and say “Damn, that was fun”. More importantly, I want to leave this world knowing I’ve at least tried to make it better. I have been involved in many philanthropic efforts, Walk for Hunger, Animal Rescue League, Boys and Girls Club, Meals on Wheels, Cheers for Children, Humane Society, just to name a few.

I have since transformed from a hood rat to a crunchy granola head, and proud of it. I didn’t find Jesus, or tie a little red string around my wrist or find inner peace. I mean, I’m still a tough broad. After trying so many things this life has to offer, I worked hard to get where I am and if I want to go to yoga and eat vegetarian food, I’m going to. I love cooking, healthy food, healthy living and finding new physical activities to avoid boredom.

That doesn’t mean I’m not a badass. I played roller derby for Boston Derby Dames, I have years of experience in martial arts and I am currently training in Taekwondo. I still love cheeseburgers (cheeseburgers make me a badass?). I am a beer snob. I worked at a tattoo shop. Yes I have tattoos, and no you can’t see them, unless you buy me a drink. I could probably fix your computer too. And school you in Guitar Hero.

Where will you find me: biography section of the library, art shows, local bands playing at T.T’s or the Middle East, any pub that serves Belgian beers on tap, any pub that serves Mac & Cheese, Spanish tapas bars, I don’t want to tell you everywhere I go, no stalkers please.

You play roller derby? Damn that’s pretty awesome – I’ve never been to one but definitely want to go. Can you shoot me the info?

I did play Roller Derby, and I loved it! The home rink is at the Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington, very easy to get to, right off 93. They serve booze and pub food, whats not to love? Tickets usually sell out, so you’re best to buy them as soon as they’re on sale. You can chance it and try to get in at the door, but you’ll probably be out of luck. This is their website

The first league bout is February 26th, and it’s a double header. The All-Star travel team ‘The Boston Massacres’ vs. New Skids on the Block from Montreal….and then our very own Cosmonaughties vs. The Nutcrackers! If you’re curious, I was a Boston Massacre AND a Nutcracker :)
