Drink Of The Week: Ngraaa Nggg Ngaaarrggaa!

October 20, 2011 Sylvia Bee No Comments

I admit the title is odd. Well, it’s coming up on Halloween, so I thought a Creature Feature would be appropriate for the Drink Of The Week. This week, I proudly bring you The Zombie. (Hence the title translated into Zombieze.)

The Zombie is so named for 2 reasons: It’s a tropical drink, associated with islands where zombies are reputed to exist; and if you drink one too fast – well, if you are what you eat, it is also possible to be what you drink.

I need to thank the website where I found the above ideal image: www.Psycho.Rockabilly-online.com. They are pretty cool people – go check them out!

Being a popular drink with a longish history, recipes abound. What I present here to you is the version I know and love. Keep in mind that this drink is a VERY heavy hitter, especially with all those nice fruit juices to mask the rum. Responsibility - take some.

Drink Name:
The Zombie

Main Alcohol:
Various Rums, Apricot Brandy

Type of Glass:
Collins Glass

Who Should Drink This:
Those of you who have this odd desire to LARP “Serpent and the Rainbow”.

Where You Should Drink This:
Somewhere with a comfy couch.

What This Drink Says About You:
It was either this, or brains.

Ingredients:

2 oz. Dark Rum

1 oz. Light Rum

½ oz. Apricot Brandy

1 oz. Pineapple Juice

1 oz. Orange Juice

1 oz. Lime Juice (about ½ a lime)

1 tsp. sugar

½ oz. Bacardi® 151 Rum

How To Make The Drink:

Fill your Collins ¾ with ice chunks. Pour in all ingredients except the 151 and shake what your mummy gave ya. Pour it all back into the glass, then float the 151 on top. Garnish with whatever tropical goodies you prefer – pineapple and/or orange slices, cherries, little umbrellas, etc. Or, for a festive Halloween addition, make an eyeball garnish: Get yourself some food coloring markers (the kind used for decorating cookies), and draw some irises and pupils on peeled grapes. Bone appetite!
